This being the first espresso machine I have ever had/used, it seems pretty simple and straightforward, although I did appreciate the instruction book, because I did have to reference it a couple of times when I couldn't figure out how to (1) change out the "cup" size, and (2) get the wand thing IN to the correct position. It’s a simple, basic espresso maker, which is exactly what I wanted. Setup was simple, and it was much easier to use than I expected for my first espresso machine. I found this expresso machine to be a little disappointing honestly. I'm getting zero foam production from it and the coffee just isn't getting the same rich flavor I get from my machine at work. My number one complaint is the size - its a squat little machine that is very restrictive in the size of cup you can use. Yes, espresso cups are small, but what if you're making a latte or americano?
